Business Italian
What you should know about Italian
Italian is spoken as a native language by 59 million people in the EU (13% of the EU population), mainly in Italy, and as a second language by 14 million (3%). When one includes Italian speakers in non-EU European countries (such as those in Switzerland and Albania) and those on other continents, the total number of speakers is more than 85 million.
It is the official language of San Marino, the primary language of the Vatican City, and one of the official languages in Switzerland. It is also co-official in Slovenia and Croatia and is widely spoken in Malta, making it the most spoken non-official language in Europe.
